Will I Lose Muscle If I Eat a Low-Carb Diet?

I have had very respected physicians and nutrition experts tell me that if I eat a low-carb, high-fat diet for too long, I will lose muscle and be weak.

These are the type of statements that have been misleading people for decades.

Since my journey began with a this way of life, I have lost over 25 pounds, 2 inches off my waist size, been the Masters winner in my last two 5K races, and have more energy than my teenage years!!

There is a tremendous amount of scientific data in peer-reviewed journals that espouse the benefits of a low-carb, ketogenic diet.

A ketogenic diet is where the body is utilizing ketones (from fat) for energy and NOT sugar or glucose.

Here are the highlights of a great article about the metabolic effect of a very low-carb diet:

1. ketones are a great source of fuel for the brain

2. a very-low-carbohydrate diet resulted in a significant reduction in fat mass and a concomitant increase in lean body mass in normal-weight men

3. There is no clear requirements for dietary carbohydrates. The increase in FAT raises good HDL levels and lowers triglycerides

Let me know your thoughts.

How successful are you at eliminating carbohydrates?

How do you feel?

Are you sleeping better?
